SCTIMST launches Agappe Chitra Magna

The Agappe Chitra Magna was launched by Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, an Institute of National Importance functioning under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) on 21 May 2020.

Key Points:

  • The Agappe Chitra Magna is an RNA extraction kit developed in collaboration with Agappe Diagnostics Ltd, which develops in vitro diagnostics and is a manufacturing company based in Cochin.
  • The technology utilizes the method of isolation of RNA by the use of magnetic nanoparticles for capturing RNA from the sample of patients, and this technological innovation also improves the chances of identification of positive cases.
  • The launch of the kit commercially is a significant step towards making India self-reliant in the detection of COVID 19. This will also help in increasing the rate of testing and bringing down the costs, which is an essential step in combating the coronavirus pandemic.
  • Increasing the concentration of RNA by the application of magnetic after joining the RNA with magnetic nanoparticles is a breakthrough which has allowed the high sensitivity of RT-LAMP test from SCTIMST.
