Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize

Tony Joseph, an English author, has won the 12th ‘Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize’ for his 2018 book, Early Indians: The Story of Our Ancestors and Where We Came From, the Shakti Bhatt Foundation announced on 2nd Dec.

Key Points:

  • The Foundation has invited entries genres like fiction, poetry, graphic novels, creative non-fiction (travel writing, autobiography, biography and narrative journalism), and drama.
  • Mr Tony has beat four other debut writers to bag the award that seeks to celebrate “extraordinary new writing in all genres” from South Asian countries.
  • This was instituted in the year 2008, and the award carries a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh and a trophy.
  • Other Short-Listed Books for 2019’s prize included: Priyanka Dubey’s No Nation for Women, Bangladeshi writer Numair Atif Choudhury’s Babu Bangladeshi, Roshan Ali’s Ib’s Endless Search for Satisfaction, and also late Pakistani-American novelist Nadia Akbar’s Goodbye Freddie Mercury.
