On April 8, 2022, SpaceX deployed three wealthy people in business and their astronaut escorts to the International Space Station. They will spend more than a week on the space station.

Key Points

  • NASA has joined Russia in welcoming visitors to the International Space Station (ISS).
  • Two years after flying NASA astronauts to the space station, this is SpaceX's first private charter voyage to the ISS.
  • After years of opposition, NASA has finally agreed to admit visitors to the International Space Station (ISS).

Concerning the tourists

  • Visitors to the space station include real estate, investment, and other company owners from Canada, the United States, and Israel.
  • They paid USD 55 million per person for the ride and housing, including meals.
  • Visitors can access all parts of the ISS except the Russian sector, which requires permission from the three cosmonauts on board.
  • This has been planned by Axiom Space in collaboration with NASA for Mark Pathy, founder and CEO of Montreal's Mavrik Corp.; Larry Connor of Dayton, Connor Group, Ohio; and Eytan Stibbe, founding partner of Vital Capital, Israel.

Hosting of tourists by Russia

  • For decades, Russia has hosted tourists in the International Space Station (ISS) and the Mir space station before that.
  • A Russian film crew flew up to the space station last year, followed by a Japanese fashion magnate and his aide.
