The Central Government is going to launch CoWin-20

The Central Government is going to launch the CoWin-20 app that will help individuals to track Coronavirus infection by tracking the smartphone location and therefore, will help restraint community transmission.

Key Points:

  • The app will help in tracing travel history of individuals infected with the virus,
  • The app will also help in Contact tracing and sharing the required information with the public, so as to provide them with information on which areas to avoid.
  • The app will also help the individual in identifying the nearest COVID-19 centres, based on geolocation.
  • The app might function similar to a website designed by Google in the U.S.A. or an app released by Singapore.
  •  The apps will be released on Google Playstore and Apple’s iOS App Store.
  • Users will be able to download the app from Google Playstore while users of Apple devices will be required to share their device Unique Device Identifiers with the National Informatics Centre.
  • The app will also include features like automatic feeds of government advisories and safety recommendations provided by the Indian Government.
