The Delhi government launched a booklet on the life and teachings of Dr BR Ambedkar for students

The Delhi government has launched a booklet on the life and teachings of Dr BR Ambedkar for students of class 6-8 in government schools. The booklet was launched on Ambedkar's 63rd death anniversary.

  • This booklet was prepared by the social welfare department of the Delhi government with the help of three scholars and experts from Delhi University, N. Sukumar, Shashi Rani and Mani Sagar.
  • This booklet contains three parts, which explores the life and education of Ambedkar, his social reforms initiatives and also his contribution to women empowerment.
  • This ponders his roles and efforts on writing the Constitution of India and his contributions to social and gender justice.
  • The third part of the book will talk about the contribution of Ambedkar in parliamentary democracy and government.

About Ambedkar:

  • He is popularly known as Baba Saheb. He was the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly and is called the ‘Father of the Indian Constitution’.
  • He was a jurist and an economist. Born into a caste that was considered untouchable, he faced many injustices and discrimination in society.
  • He promoted the education of Dalits. He also represented the government in various capacities in this regard. He established the Bahishkrit Hitakarini Sabha which was to promote the education and socio-economic improvements among the Dalits.
  • He started magazines like Equality Janta, Mooknayak and Bahishkrit Bharat.
