THIRD FOREIGN OFFICE CONSULTATIONS BETWEEN INDIA AND EL SALVADOR

Context:

On September 17, 2021, India and El Salvador held their 3rd Foreign Office Consultations in San Salvador.

Key Highlights:

• Indian side was led by Riva Ganguly Das, Secretary (East), while and El Salvadoran side was led by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Integration & Economic Promotion, Ambassador Adriana Maria Mira.
• During the consultation, the two noted the warm and friendly relations between El Salvador and India.
• They also reviewed bilateral relations in all sectors including health, trade and investment, tourism, energy, maritime, transport, aviation and infrastructure, co-operation and development and culture.
• Both countries have decided to exchange their best practices at the public forums.
• They also exchanged views on regional and international issues with similar interests such as cooperation at the United Nations and finally agreed to work closely with that international forum.

India El Salvador Relations:

• On February 12, 1979, relations between the 2 countries were established.
• The El Salvador ambassador to London was authorized to stay in India until June 2008 when El Salvador established its ambassador to New Delhi.
• El Salvador currently maintains its ambassador to New Delhi as well as well as an honorary consulate in Bangalore.
• The Indian Embassy in Guatemala is accredited in El Salvador. India also has an honorary consulatet in San Salvador.
