What do you see in the Sky?

Stars

Planets

Objects that are twinkling or flickering. Eg., Sun

Objects that are glowing but not twinkling/ flickering.

Stars emit a large amount of heat and light

Don’t have their own heat and light.  Instead, they are lit by the light of stars.

Constellations like Ursa Major or Big Bear, Saptarshi or Small Bear

8 Planets – Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune

North Star or Pole Star

The Moon and other satellites

Pointer Stars

Asteroids and  Meteoroids

Stars are big heavenly bodies

Planets are called   'Wanderers' because they revolve around the sun in a fixed orbit.

There are many stars which we cannot see with our naked eyes

Planets can be seen with the help of the telescope.

The Solar System

The Sun, 8 Planets, Satellites and some other celestial bodies known as asteroids and meteoroids make the Solar System.  It’s a solar family with the Sun as its head.

Sun God in Roman mythology

Constellation

A huge group of stars forming various patterns in the sky. E.g., Ursa Major, Saptarshi

Stars

Big and hot, made up of gases.  Have their own heat and light, emitting them in huge amounts.   E.g., Sun

Nebula

Stars are formed from the clouds of gas and dust in space, called nebula and have their own heat and light.

Pole Star

Also called the North Star.  Can be used to determine directions.  Always remain in the same position in the sky.  Can be located using Saptarshi.  Facing North, one can see it through an imaginary line joining the two pointer stars and extended further.
