Torpedo Decoy System developed indigenously, inducted by Indian Navy

An Indigenously developed Maareech capable Advanced Torpedo Decoy System has been inducted by the Indian Navy on 26th June 2020. It has provided a huge boost to the Indian Navy’s Anti-Submarine Warfare Capabilities.

Key Points:

  • The design and development of the Anti-Torpedo Decoy System have taken place at the Naval Physical & Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL) and Naval Science & Technology Laboratory (NSTL) laboratories of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
  • The decoy system is capable of firing from all frontline warships and has demonstrated the features according to the requirements of Naval Staff Qualification.
  • The production of the decoy system will be undertaken by the Defence Public Sector Undertaking, Bharat Electronics Limited.
  • The Indian Navy has also installed a prototype of the system on board a naval platform nominated for it and has completed all assessment trials successfully.
  • The induction of the system depicts the close association between the DRDO and the Indian Navy in building an indigenous defence technology and has provided a major boost to the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the central government and strengthened the resolve of the country to become self-reliant in technology.
