UPDATED GOVERNMENT GUIDELINES FOR PM CARES FOR CHILDREN SCHEME

Context:

Recently, the Ministry of Women and Child Development released detailed guidelines for the PM CARES for Children Scheme.

Purpose of the Scheme:

• The aim is to ensure the full care and protection of children who have lost their parents to the COVID epidemic, in a sustainable manner, empowering their well-being through health insurance, equipping themselves with education and equipping them to earn enough money to support 23 years of age.

Some of the entitlements under the scheme include:

i. Support for Boarding and Lodging:

a) Efforts will be made by the District Magistrate with the assistance of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to assess the feasibility of rehabilitating the child within his or her family, relatives, kith, or relatives.

ii. Pre-School Education and School Education Assistance

a. For children under the age of 6 beneficiary recipients will receive support and assistance from Anganwadi services for supplementary nutrition, pre-school education/ ECCE, immunization, health referrals, and health check-up.

b. For children under 10 years of age

i) It will be admitted to any nearby school as a day specialist ie Government / Government Assisted School / Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) / Independent Schools.

c. For children between the ages of 11-18 years

i) If the child is living with an extended family, then admission to Government / Government / Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) / private schools as a day specialist can be verified by DM.
