US Spy Satellite NROL-71 launched

On Jan. 19, 2019, a United Launch Alliance Delta IV Heavy rocket launched the clandestine NROL-71 spy satellite on a secret mission for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office. 

NROL-71 is a reconnaissance satellite.

A reconnaissance satellite or intelligence satellite is an Earth observation satellite or communications satellite deployed for military or intelligence applications.

US has the most number of military satellites – 123.

Russia and China are the 2nd and 3rd countries respectively having most number of military satellites.

India has only 7.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched a series of satellites with capabilities that could be of significant use to the armed forces. CARTOSAT and RISAT came up to give India the capability to keep an eye on Pakistan's activities along the borders.
