UTTAR PRADESH GOVERNMENT PRESENTED THE FIRST PAPERLESS BUDGET

Context

The Uttar Pradesh Government presented the first paperless budget of any state in India and also the first paperless budget of the state assembly.

Details

• The paperless budget was presented by Finance Minister Suresh Khanna on 22 Feb 2021.
• It was also the biggest budget of the state amounting to approximately Rs 5,50,270 crores in line with the idea of Atma Nirbhar and self-reliant Uttar Pradesh.
• The budget has been developed with the aim of public welfare and is development-oriented.

Other facts

Union Budget 2021 was delivered in a paperless format for the first-ever time since India's Independence. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman read out the Union Budget document from a Made-in-India tablet.  No hard copies of the Budget 2021 were printed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

All the members of the Parliament were given soft copies of the Budget document.  The Finance Ministry had also launched a 'Union Budget app' to enable smooth access to Budget-related documents.
