Veteran Indian boxer L Sarita Devi has been elected to the International Boxing Association’s (AIBA) first-ever athletes commission to represent the Asian bloc. She was in the running for the position as the sole candidate from the region.

Sarita Devi became a professional boxer in the year 2000. She is a DSP with Manipur Police and an eight-time Asian Championship medalist, which includes 5 Gold medals. Currently, she is an athlete representative in the Boxing Federation of India’s Executive Committee. This federation had nominated her for the position in the world boxing body.
