Water quality report for state capitals and New Delhi

Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Shri Ram Vilas Paswan has released Water quality report. According to this report is in line with the Water Life Mission which was launched by 2024 to provide clean and safe drinking water to all.

Key Facts:–

  • According to the report the water being supplied by the Delhi Jal Board is not drinkable.
  • The conclusion was made by the Indian Standards Organization (BIS) after examining the Samples were collected from 11 locations including 12 Janpath and Krishi Bhavan in Delhi.
  • As per Indian Standard 10500:2012 (Specification for Drinking Water) the samples of drinking water were tested.
  • According to Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan released the water quality rankings of 21 cities recently according to the parameters of the report the water in the national capital Delhi is not drinkable.
  • According to the ranking, the best drinking water facility in the country is in Mumbai.
  • One or more samples did not comply with the requirements of the Standard in the cities of Hyderabad, Bhubaneshwar, Ranchi, Raipur, Amravati and Shimla.
  • None of the samples drawn from Chandigarh, Thiruvananthapuram, Patna, Bhopal, Guwahati, Bengaluru, Gandhinagar, Lucknow, Jammu, Jaipur, Dehradun, Chennai, Kolkata complied with the requirements of the Indian Standard.
