Weavers' Sammaan Yojana launched by Karnataka

The Weavers Sammaan Yojana was launched by the Chief Minister of Karnataka B. S. Yediyurappa on 6 July 2020. The government has allocated Rs.10.96 crores under the initiative.

Key Points:

  • Under the scheme, the government will provide two thousand rupees to 19,744 handloom weavers in the form of annual financial assistance via Direct Benefit Transfer.
  • On the Seva Sindhu software, 40,634 handloom weavers are registered, and out of the 37,314 applications have been approved by the government for financial assistance.
  • Under Weavers Sammaan Yojana, the government will provide all the eligible handloom weavers with financial aid.
  • The government has also approved one-time financial support of two thousand rupees for 8,897 workers out of the 1.25 lakh workers who have been employed in the power loom sector.

Note:

  • The government of Karnataka had also started a similar initiative in May 2020, under which the government gave Rs.5000 to people in the rural areas.
  • The government had also announced a relief fund of Rs.1610 crore for the benefit of flower growers, farmers, auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers and MSMEs.
