West Bengal (WB) celebrated the ‘Rosogolla Dibas’ or Rasgulla Day on 14th November 2019. This day is to mark the granting of Geographical Indication tag of ‘Banglar Rosogolla’ or Bengal’s Rasgulla to the state on 14th November two years ago, i.e.,14 November 2017.

After years of struggle, West Bengal and Odisha were involved in a tug-of-war to stake a claim to the origin of the sweetmeat.
Thereby, while West Bengal was granted GI tag for ‘Banglar Rosogulla’ or the Bengal variant of the sweetmeat in 2017, Odisha got the GI tag for ‘Odisha Rasagola’ or the Odisha variant earlier in 2019.
