WHAT IS A DARBAR MOVE?

Context:

  • Ahead of the bi-annual darbar move, the Jammu and Kashmir government advised its employees working in the move offices, remembering common secretariat and those succumbing to the age gathering of 45 or more, to get themselves vaccinated against COVID-19.

Darbar Move:

  • It is a century-old practice in which the government functioned for 6 months each in the 2 capitals of the past State, Srinagar and Jammu.
  • The custom was begun during Dogra rule in 1872 by Maharaja Ranbir Singh, the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • It was begun to take the administration to the doorstep of the people of Kashmir which is nearer to Ladakh.

Issue:

  • The issue of suspending the move has sporadically been raised, yet the monetary advantages the move brings to Jammu has prompted protection from any designs to change it.
  • The ‘Darbar Move’ brings about wastage of colossal measure of time, endeavors and energy on wasteful and pointless action.
