World Hemophilia Day

The World Hemophilia Day is observed on 17 April 2020 by the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) and the bleeding disorders community. The objective of the day is to spread awareness about the various bleeding disorders.

Key Points:

  • The theme of World Hemophilia Day 2020 is ‘Get+involved virtually and stay safe’, 17 April is selected to mark Frank Schnabel’s birthday .
  • The Humanitarian Aid Program by the WFH gives an extended set of care development training programs integrated together which ensures that the medical expertise and local infrastructure are available for optimization and appropriate usage of the donated products.
  • To greatly improve the diagnosis and treatment of people with bleeding disorders Global Alliance for Progress (GAP) Program was developed.
  • The World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) was established by Frank Schnabel, in 1963  and is headquartered in Montreal, Canada.
  • Frank Schnabel was a Montreal businessman born with severe hemophilia.
  • The WFH was recognized by the World Health Organization in 1969. The current president of WFH is Alain Weill.
