Every year World Laughter Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of May.

Details

  • It is celebrated to raise awareness about laughter and its many healing benefits.
  • It was first celebrated on May 10, 1998, in Mumbai, India.
  • It was arranged by Dr Madan Kataria, founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement.
  • Over 105 countries have celebrated and welcomed the laughter yoga movement.
  • He was inspired to start the Laughter Yoga movement because of the facial feedback hypothesis.

About Laughter yoga

  • It is a modern exercise involving prolonged voluntary laughter.
  • It is based on the belief that voluntary laughter provides similar physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter.
