World’s First Electronic Flight

World’s First Electronic Flight

The first fully electronic flight in the world completed its test flight successfully on December 10th 2019. This flight would operate from Vancouver, Canada to the nearby islands.

Key Points:

  • The company designed this plane’s motor and worked in partnership with Harbour Air.
  • This zero-emission electronic flight proved that all-electric commercial aviation is possible. 
  • The electrical aircraft designed was a 6-seater seaplane that was retrofitted with an electric motor. 
  • The first flight lasted for 15 minutes. 
  • India is also promoting and incentivizing the use of electric vehicles.

FAME-India scheme:

  • Department of Heavy Industry formulated a Scheme viz. Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) Scheme in the year 2015 to promote the manufacturing of electric and hybrid vehicle technology and to ensure sustainable growth.
  • The Phase-I of this Scheme was initially launched for a period of 2 years which commenced from 1st April 2015. This was subsequently extended from time to time, and the last extension was allowed up to 31st March 2019. 

The 1st Phase of FAME India Scheme was implemented through four focus areas:

  1. Demand Creation
  2. Technology Platform
  3. Pilot Project and
  4. Charging Infrastructure. 
  5. Market creation through demand incentives was aimed at incentivizing all vehicle segments, i.e. 2-Wheelers, Passenger 4-Wheeler vehicles, 3-Wheelers Auto, Light Commercial Vehicles and Buses.
  • The overall outcomes of key parameters of Fuel-saving and CO2 reduction.
