Railway boards normally divided into 21 Railways Boards conducts recruitment for various posts under Category D every year. The Group D recruitment is done by Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) at the divisional level. Selection Process

Only single online application has to be submitted by the candidate to the RRB of their choice for all the notified posts of that RRB through the official website. The entire recruitment process shall involve a Computer Based Test (CBT), Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Document Verification.

The date, time and venue for all the activities, namely, CBT, PET and DV or any other additional activity as applicable shall be fixed by the RRBs and shall be intimated to the eligible candidates in due course. Request for postponement of any of the above activity or for change of venue, date and shift will not be entertained under any circumstances.

The detail Group D recruitment examination selection procedure is as follows-


1.Computer Based Test
All the eligible candidates have to undergo a Computer Based Test on the specified date, time and venue as per the e-call letter to be downloaded by the candidates from the websites of RRBs. The information about the e-call letter download shall be communicated through the websites as well as personal email communication to the candidates.
Total Duration : 90 Min,
No of Questions: 100 Computer Based Test


PHYSICAL EFFICIENCY TESTS (PET)
Based on the merit of the candidates in the CBT, candidates shall be called for PET Two times the community wise total vacancy of the Posts notified against RRBs. However, Railways reserve the right to increase/decrease this limit as required to ensure availability of adequate candidates for all the notified posts. Passing Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is mandatory and the same will be qualifying in nature. The criterion for PET is as under:PHYSICAL EFFICIENCY TESTS (PET) Based on the merit of the candidates in the CBT, candidates shall be called for PET Two times the community wise total vacancy of the Posts notified against RRBs. Male Candidates Female Candidates
  • Should be able to lift and carry 35 kg of weight for a distance of 100 metres in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down. and
  • Running: 1000 metres in 4 Minutes & 15 Seconds in one chance.
  • Should be able to lift and carry 20 kg of weight for a distance of 100 metres in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down. and
  • Should be able to run for a distance of 1000 metres in 5 minutes and 40 seconds in one chance.

Note: The persons with disabilities as specified in notification are exempted from appearing for PET. However, after qualifying in the CBT, such candidates will have to pass the medical examination prescribed for Persons with Disabilities.


Document Verification and Empanelling of Candidates
Based on the performance of candidates in the CBT subject to their qualifying in PET, candidates will be called for document verification.
In case of two or more candidates securing same marks, their merit position shall be determined by age criteria i.e., older person shall be given higher seniority.
Appointment of selected candidates is subject to their passing requisite Medical Fitness Test to be conducted by the Railway Administration, final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of antecedents/character of the candidates.
Candidates may please note that RRBs only recommend names of the empanelled candidates and appointment is offered ONLY by the respective Railway Administrations.

Syllabus

The Questions will be of objective type with multiple choices and are likely to include questions pertaining to below mention four subjects- Mathematics, Reasoning, GA, and GS. Detailed syllabus is as follows-

a. Mathematics
Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work; Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.

b. General Intelligence and reasoning
Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical Reasoning,  Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.

c. General Science
The syllabus under this shall cover Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10 standard level.

d. General Awareness on current affairs in Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics and any other subjects of importance.

 The RRB Group D selection will be based on 3 stages as follows:

 Point to consider-

1. Correct marks 1 for every correct attempt.

2. Negative marking -0.33.

3. This test will be screening in nature, only qualified candidates will move to second stage. 

Job Profile

The details regarding the job profile offered via Group D recruitment is as follows-

Pointsman:

  • To handle switches or railroad points.
  • To control the lever to direct the train to the required tracks.
  • His work also includes disconnecting or connecting a particular coach from the train.

Porter/Hamal/Sweeper:

  • To help railway passengers at stations.
  • To handle loading and unloading of passengers’ luggages
  • Sweeper's work is to maintain general cleanliness & up keeping the station, Section/Unit, building fixtures etc. 

Gateman:

  • To open and close the gates at level crossing.

Hospital Attendant:

  • It is an indoor job and work profile is related to medical facilities.

Helper (Electrical, Mechanical, S & T):

  • Depends upon the department
  • In S & T department, they are in charge of maintenance of signal.
  • In Electrical department, they are in charge of various electrical equipments.

Candidates please note that the above cutoff represents the cutoff of the a particular zone. There are around 17-18 zones. The cutoff revolves around the same as above. Expected safest score for RRB Group D CBT  will be 75+ marks. Aspirant should target 80+ question with 90% accuracy in order to qualify first CBT.
