The SBI PO recruitment exam is most important among the public-sector bank exams in India as it offers a prestigious career option to the candidates looking for government sector jobs. The State Bank of India has officially released the annual notification of hiring Probationary Officers in SBI Banks spread all over the country. A total number of 2000 vacancies have been mentioned by State Bank of India in its official notification.

All eligible candidates, who aspire to join State Bank of India as a Probationary Officer, are required to register online for the Recruitment Process. The examination will be held in three phases i.e. Preliminary, Mains and Group Exercise & Interview. Candidates who are shortlisted after Preliminary examination will have to appear for Mains examination. Candidates shortlisted after the mains will be subsequently called for Group Exercises & Interview.

Application Process

With SBI being one of the most preferred Public Sector Banks to work in, we can expect a large number of online applications being submitted from today onwards. The online application for SBI PO 2017 has already begun. Interested candidates who are able to fulfill the eligibility criteria can follow these simple steps to submit their application online. The Application Fee/ Intimation Charges for submitting the application is as follows.

  • Rs. 100/- for SC/ST/PWD candidates
  • Rs. 600/- for all others 

HOW TO APPLY

Candidates can apply online only from 21.04.2018 to 13.05.2018. No other mode of application will be accepted.

Pre-requisites for Applying Online: Candidates should have a valid email ID which should be kept active till the declaration of results. It will be essentially required for receiving any communication from the bank.

GUIDELINES FOR FILLING ONLINE APPLICATION

Candidates will be required to register themselves online through Bank's website https://bank.sbi/careers or https://www.sbi.co.in/careers. After registration, candidates are required to pay the requisite application fee through online mode by using debit card/ credit card/ Internet Banking.

Helpdesk: In case of any problem in filling up the form, payment of fee/ intimation charges or receipt of Admission/ call letter, queries may be made at telephone no. 022-22820427 (between 11:00 AM to 06:00 PM on working days) or lodge their query on http://cgrs.ibps.in. Candidates should mention ‘RECRUITMENT OF PROBATIONARY OFFICERS IN STATE BANK OF INDIA-2018’ in the subject of the email.

a. REGISTRATION PAYMENT OF FEES: Online Mode Only

Candidates should first scan their photograph and signature as detailed under guidelines for scanning the photograph and signature.

Candidates to visit Bank's website https://bank.sbi/careers or https://www.sbi.co.in/careers and open the appropriate Online Application Form, available in the 'Current Openings’.

Fill the application carefully. Once the application is filled in completely, candidates should submit the data. In the event of candidates not being able to fill the data in one go, they can save the data already entered. When the data is saved, a provisional registration number and password will be generated by the system and displayed on the screen. Candidates should note down the registration number and password. They can re-open the saved data using registration number and password and edit the particulars if needed. This facility will be available three times only. Once the application is filled in completely, candidates should submit the data. No change /edit will be allowed thereafter. The registration at this stage is provisional.

After ensuring the correctness of the particulars of the application form, candidates are required to pay fees through the payment gateway integrated with the application, following the instructions available on the screen.
The payment can be made by using debit card/ credit card/ Internet Banking by providing information as asked on the screen. Transaction charges for online payment, if any, will be borne by the candidates.

On successful completion of the transaction, e-receipt and application form will be generated; which may be printed for record. The printout of the application form is NOT to be sent to the Bank.

If the online transaction is not successfully completed, please register again and make payment online.
There is also a provision to reprint the e-Receipt and Application form containing fee details, at a later stage.


b. GUIDELINES FOR SCANNING THE PHOTOGRAPH & SIGNATURE

Before applying online, a candidate will be required to have a scanned (digital) image of his/her photograph and signature as per the specifications. Online application will not be registered unless candidates upload photo and signature as specified.

In case, the face in the photograph or signature is unclear, the applicant`s candidature may be rejected.
In case, the photograph or signature is unclear, the candidate may edit his/ her/ their application and re-upload his/ her/ their photograph or signature.

*Vacancies reserved for OBC category are available to OBC Candidates belonging to 'Non-creamy layer'. 'Creamy layer' OBC candidates should indicate their category as 'General'. Selection Process

The selection of Probationary Officers will be done through a three-tier process:

Phase-I: SBI PO Preliminary Examination 2018

Selection criteria for the Main Examination: Category wise merit list will be drawn on the basis of the aggregate marks scored in the Preliminary Examination. Candidates numbering approximately 10 times the numbers of vacancies in each category will be shortlisted for the Main Examination from the top of the merit list.

Phase – II: SBI PO Mains Examination 2018

Selection criteria for Group Exercise and Interview: Category wise merit list will be drawn on the basis of the aggregate marks scored in the Main Examination. Candidates numbering up to 3 times (approximately) of the category wise vacancies will be shortlisted for the Group Exercise & Interview from the top of the merit list subject to a candidate scoring minimum qualifying score in aggregate.

 Phase – III: SBI PO Group Exercises & Interview 

Final Selection
The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination (Phase-I) will not be added for preparing the final merit list for selection. Only the marks obtained in Main Examination (Phase-II), both in Objective Test and Descriptive Test, will be added to the marks obtained in GE & Interview (Phase-III) for preparing the final merit list. The candidates will have to qualify both in Phase-II and Phase-III separately. Marks secured by the candidates in the Main Examination (out of 250 marks) are converted to out of 75 and marks secured in Group Exercises & Interview (out of 50 marks) are converted to out of 25. The final merit list is arrived at after aggregating converted marks of Main Examination and Group Exercises & Interview out of 100. The selection will be made from the top merit ranked candidates in each category.

 Candidates who have already appeared for the maximum number of permissible chances are not eligible to apply. The number of chances will be counted from the examination held on 18.04.2010. Appearing in Preliminary Examination will not be counted as a chance. In the years in which only one written examination has been held (i.e. no Preliminary Examination has been held), appearing in this examination will be counted as a chance. 

Eligibility Criteria

The following are the basic eligibility criteria for applying for the post of SBI PO:

  • Candidates with record of default in repayment of loans/credit card dues and/ or against whose name adverse report of CIBIL or other external agencies are available are not eligible for appointment.
  • Candidates against whom there is/are adverse report regarding character & antecedents, moral turpitude are not eligible to apply for the post.

Educational Qualification

Essential Academic Qualifications: (AS ON 31.08.2018):

  • Graduation in any discipline from a recognised University or any equivalent qualification
    recognised as such by the Central Government.
  • Those who are in the Final year/ Semester of their Graduation may also apply provisionally subject to the condition that, if called for interview, they will have to produce proof of having passed the graduation examination on or before 31.08.2018.
  • Candidates having integrated dual degree (IDD) certificate should ensure that the date of passing the IDD is on or before 31.08.2018.
  • Candidates possessing qualification of Chartered Accountant may also apply.

SBI PO 2018 New Exam Pattern 

The State Bank of India has definitely surprised a lot of Banking Aspirants by publishing a New Exam Pattern for SBI PO Exam 2018. The State Bank of India has introduced some major changes this year in SBI PO Prelims Exam Pattern. This Year SBI has Introduced has two major pattern changes in it, i.e., sectional timings (20 minutes for each section) for the three different sections (English, Reasoning Ability, and Quantitative Aptitude). 

Some highlights of the changes made in the exam pattern are given below:

  • Each section of the Prelims exam will now have a separate time slot (20 Minutes each).
  • Also, there will not be any sectional or overall cut-off.
  • An adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by the Bank  will be shortlisted for the Mains Exam from the list of all candidates arranged in descending order of aggregate marks scored. 

Phase-I: Preliminary Examination:

Preliminary Examination consisting of Objective Test for 100 marks will be conducted online. The test will have of 3 Sections (with separate timings for each section) as follows:

Phase – II: Main Examination:

Main Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 200 marks and Descriptive Test for 50 marks. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests will be online. Candidates will have to answer Descriptive test by typing on the computer. Descriptive Test will be administered immediately after completion of the Objective Test.

(i) Objective Test: The objective test of 3 hours duration consists of 4 Sections for total 200 marks. The objective test will have separate timing for every section.

    (ii) Descriptive Test: The Descriptive Test of 30 minutes duration with two questions for 50 marks will be a Test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay).

    Penalty for Wrong Answers (Applicable to both – Preliminary and Main examination)

    There will be a penalty for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one fourth of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at the corrected score. If a question is left blank, i.e. if no answer is marked by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.

    The job profile of an SBI Probationary Officer includes the following tasks during the probationary tenure, i.e., initial 2 years in the organization:

    • Inculcating knowledge on all various bank tasks
    • Customer Service responsibilities ranging from passbook printing to account opening & even more
    • Supervising clerical work
    • Processing loans, etc.

    What should be the focus areas while preparing for the exam ?

    Is the SBI PO exam Bilingual?

    Except for the Descriptive Test for English Language section, all the other tests are bilingual, i.e. available in both English and Hindi.

    Is there Negative Marking?

    Yes, there is negative marking for wrong answer in the objective tests of both Preliminary and Mains Exam of SBI PO 2018. One fourth of the total marks allotted for that question will be deducted for marking a wrong answer.

    Are there fixed timings for different sections?

    For the first time, SBI has introduced the sectional timing factor in SBI Clerk Prelims exam pattern. As per the official notification, there are no changes in the Mains examination.

    What should I do if there is lot of delay in accessing the page?

    Speed for Registration of On-Line Application on Internet, is based on various factors like Internet Speed, large number of applicants trying to register the application at the same time etc. Therefore, if you are not able to get the pages for registration immediately, please retry after a gap of 15 minutes or during off-peak hours in the night.

    How do I know that my application is registered?

    Successful Registration is indicated by the Page displayed after clicking the Submit Button indicating the generated "REGISTRATION NO." and "PASSWORD". Please note down the same carefully and preserve it. If you do not preserve it, you will not be able to Re-Print the Application and download the Call Letter, results etc.

    I did not receive the email intimation for registration of my application?

    "REGISTRATION NO." and "PASSWORD" are also sent by auto-response Confirmation emails. Delivery of these emails purely depends upon the correctness of E-Mail ID provided, Policy of your Email Service Provider to accept and Divert such emails under Bulk or Spam Mails or bounce back such mails without accepting it due to heavy number of emails generated by our Applications. In case of Govt./official /company Email Ids, delivery is controlled by your Company Policies. Therefore, please do not expect replies from us, if you do not receive such confirmation / auto-response Emails.

    How do I re-confirm that my application is saved?

    In case of doubt about the successful Registration, candidates are advised to visit the Page for Re-Print of Application / e-Receipt, generate the Printout and preserve the soft copy and hard copy (printout) of the Application.

    What to do if I get Blank / Zero Registration No. after submission of application online?

    In rare cases Candidates may get Zero (0) Registration No. with valid Password. Candidates are advised to Re-Register the Application and check the Printout through Re-Print Application.

    After filling up the complete form, I got Blank Screen / Internet got disconnected / My PC closed. / hanged / shutdown. Is my application saved / registered?

    Please refer to above suggestion. If you do not get the application printout / e-Receipt through Re-Print option, your application is not saved. Please re-apply.

    I did not receive the acknowledgement / reply to my email communication?

    "Reply to" Email Id for the Application is created for the convenience of the Candidates for genuine communications. Please do not use this address to send back the emails for "Acknowledgment", "Vacation Mail", "Friendship Offers", "Sales Offers" etc. Our Email Server is configured to delete such emails automatically.

    What details should I retain while replying to auto-response emails?

    While writing back by replying the confirmation emails for a genuine problem, please retain the text containing "REGISTRATION NO." and "PASSWORD" details on the email.

    What details should I provide while writing about my problem?

    Please do not forget to provide following details while writing to SBI: (1) REGISTRATION NO. (2) MOBILE NO. (3) EMAIL ID as entered in application. In case of application failure or any error message, we would like to have the screenshot of the error in JPG, GIF format or as MS Word file. Additionally, you may provide the PC Details including the Operating System (like Windows XP, Vista, Linux etc.) & Internet Browser & version (like Internet Explorer 6.0, Mozilla 3.0, Firefox 3.5 etc.) used.

    I want to change / correct the details I entered in the Application?

    Prior to submission of the online application, please choose the 'EDIT' option to correct the details. Please remember to take fresh print out after modifying any details. Candidate should note that the data entered cannot be modified after finally submitting the application.

    Note: Field validation behaviour will differ for Tablets/ iPads as of from desktop. (example: Field validation with max length of 10 will not allow to enter 11th digit in Desktop where as on trying to enter the 11th digit value gets cleared in Tablets/ iPads).
