The total number of vacancies for the post of SBI PO in 2016 was 2200. Thereafter, the total number of vacancies opened across PAN India in 2017 for the post of SBI PO were 2400. However, the total number of vacancies for the post of SBI PO in 2018 are yet to be declared.


Selection Process

As per the ongoing process, the State Bank of India usually conducts the SBI PO exam in three phases, namely:

  • Objective Test,i.e. Online Preliminary Examination
  • Objective & Descriptive Test, i.e. Online Mains Examination
  • Personal Interview and Group Exercise

Important Note:

It should be noted that students are selected on the basis of their result in both objective as well as descriptive mains exams only.

  • Result for preliminary exam isn’t accounted while considering the overall result of candidate.
  • In order to appear for SBI PO Mains Exam, students would need to have sufficient amount of clearing marks in prelims.
  • Students would require qualifying marks in both papers of Phase-2 in order to be eligible for Phase-3 of SBI PO examination.
  • Marks obtained within mains are added to students score in Group Exercises and Personal Interview, i.e., Phase-3 of SBI PO exam.
  • The final list of shortlisted candidates based on Phase-2, Group Exercise and Personal Interview would appear of SBI’s official website. This list is also published in Employment News/ Rozgar Samachar.

Eligibility Criteria

The following are the basic eligibility criteria for applying for the post of SBI PO:

Nationality: Candidate should belong to Indian origin, and should have a valid id for the same. 

Age Limit: All aspiring SBI PO applicants should have a minimum age of 21 years and an upper age limit of not more than 30 years. The upper age limit for ex-servicemen, women and physically handicapped differs from the general category candidates.

Qualifications: Candidates applying for specific departments should meet the minimum educational requirements for the same.

Age Limit

For SBI PO, the age limit must not be below 21 years and not above 30 years as on the given date mentioned in notification.

For SBI JuniorAssiciate/Clerk, the age limit must not be below 20 years and not above 28 years as on the given date mentioned in notification.

Educational Qualification

Graduation in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government. Those who are in the Final Year/Semester of their Graduation may also apply provisionally subject to the condition.

Phase-I Pattern: Preliminary Examination of SBI PO Prelims:

Preliminary Examination consisting of Objective Tests for 100 marks will be conducted online. This test would be of 1 hour duration consisting of 3 sections as follows:


Job Profile

The job profile of an SBI Probationary Officer includes the following tasks during the probationary tenure,i.e., initial 2 years of organization:

  • Inculcating knowledge on all various bank tasks
  • Customer Service responsibilities ranging between passbook printing to account opening & even more.
  • Supervising clerical work
  • Processing loans, etc
