SSC JHT 2018 Postponed Due To New Website Launch

Candidates may refer to the 'Short Notice' of combined recruitment for the post of Junior Hindi Translator, Junior Translator, Senior Hindi Translator and Hindi Pradhyapak Examination, 2018, Published in the 'Employment News' on 02.06.2018. The submission of online application through the website of the commission was scheduled from 06.06.2018 to 29.06.2018.

In this context, it is informed that the Commission is in the process of launching a new website shortly. The application forms for the said examination are proposed to be hosted on the new website. therefore, the notice of the said examination has been postponed. The fresh dates of the Notice and submission of online application would be notified on the new website of the Commission, shortly.

Application Process

The tentative application open date for SSC JHT will be released on 02 June 2018 and would close on 26th June 2018.

Application Process:

To apply for the post of SSC JHT (Junior Hindi Translator), candidates need to fill in the application on the official website of Staff Selection Commission(SSC). Here are the steps involved in the form filling process of SSC JHT:

1. Visit the official website of SSC and read guidelines of SSC JHT notifications carefully.
2. Click on Click to Apply link
3. Fill in your form details such as name, date of birth(D.O.B), qualification information, etc carefully.
4. Thereafter, follow the steps mentioned in the instructions to apply section of the form.
5. Attach all required documents with the form & proceed to make payment.
6. After making payment online take a printout of your Junior Hindi Translator 2018 form.

Candidates must know that application form costs INR 100/- only. The fee for examination can be paid through online modes like SBI Challan/SBI Net banking or through credit/debit cards of any bank.

In addition, it should be noted that women candidates & candidates belonging to SC, ST as well as persons with disability and ex-servicemen eligible for reservation are exempted from paying the fee as per rules/instructions of Department of Personnel and Training(DoPT), Government of India.

Selection Process

Any recruit who wishes to apply for SSC JHT 2018 to get any of the job profiles offered through the exam must clear the following two stages:

Paper 1-Computer Based Test (CBT)

This examination would have General English exam worth 100 marks and General Hindi exam worth 100 marks also. Both of these examinations would be objective type exams.

The questions included within these examinations would be designed to test knowledge of candidate on understanding language as well as literature. Additionally, these papers would also test aspirants on words, phrases, and idioms as well as ability to write the languages correctly, precisely and effectively. The questions asked within the exam will be of degree level.

Paper 2- Conventional Type (Descriptive Test)

The second paper of exam would be a conventional type test based on translation and essay. This examination would carry 200 marks. By that, as it may the paper would have two passages for translation. One of the passages for translation would inculcate task of translating language from Hindi to English. The other passage would be in English and needs to be converted into Hindi.

Along with these, candidates would need to write an essay in Hindi and English language. The purpose of the latter would be to test the candidates' translation skills & their ability to write and/or comprehend the two languages correctly, precisely as well as effectively.

Only candidates who have cleared Paper-1 would be eligible for Paper-2 of SSC JHT exam. The shortlisting of selected candidates for various posts offered through SSC JHT exam would be done from Paper-2 of SSC JHT exam based on cutoff marks.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality/Citizenship: A candidate must be either:

(a) a citizen of India, or

(b) a subject of Nepal, or

(c) a subject of Bhutan, or

(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania(Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

Educational Qualification

For Junior Hindi Translators (CSOLs) candidates must have the following qualifications:
Essential:
(I) (a) Master’s Degree of a recognized University or equivalent in Hindi or English with English or Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as a medium of examination at degree level
OR
(b) Master’s Degree of a recognized University or equivalent in any subject other than Hindi or English with Hindi or English medium and English or Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as a medium of examination at degree level
OR
(c) Master’s Degree of a recognized University or equivalent in any subject other than Hindi or English with Hindi and English as a compulsory or elective subject or either of the two as a medium of examination and the other as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level;
and
(II) Recognized Diploma or Certificate Course in Translation from Hindi to English and vice-versa or Two years experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice-versa in Central or State Government Offices including Government of India Undertakings.
(III)(d)Master’s degree of a recognized University in Hindi or English with English or Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level,
Or
(e)Bachelor’s degree with Hindi and English as main subjects (which includes the term compulsory and elective)
(IV) (f)Bachelor’s degree in Hindi with English as one of the subject at degree level either as compulsory or optional from a recognized University or Institute plus Master‟s degree in any subject from a recognized University or Institute plus Bachelor of Education from a recognized University/ Institute.
OR
(g) Bachelor’s degree in any subject from a recognized University or Institute plus Master’s degree in Hindi with English as one of the subjects at degree level either as compulsory or optional from a recognized University or Institute plus Bachelor of Education from a recognized University/ Institute.
Desirable: Two years experience of teaching Hindi at Senior Secondary level under Central or State Governments or recognized educational Institution.
Note-I: As per Ministry of Human Resource Development Notification No. 44 dated 01-03-1995 published in Gazette of India edition dated 08-04-1995, the Degree obtained through open Universities/ Distance Education Mode needs to be recognized by Distance Education Council, IGNOU. Accordingly, unless such Degrees had been recognized for the period when the candidates acquired the relevant qualification, they will not be accepted for the purpose of Educational Qualification.
Note-II: Candidates who have not acquired but will acquire the educational qualification and acquire documentary evidence from the Board/University in support will also be eligible.

Job Profile

The job profile of JHTs working for different departments are as following:

Junior Hindi Translator in Central Secretariat Official Language Service (CSOLS)

As a Junior Hindi Translator working for CSOLS the job would include working on translation as well as typing of the documents from English to Hindi in the department office.

In addition, candidates also have to make sure to use and/or promote the usage of Hindi language within the department. Apart from these responsibilities candidates need to finish any other additional work assigned by their superiors within the department.

JHT in Ministry of Railways (Railway Board)

Junior Hindi Translators working for Railway Board have the primary responsibility of working on translation & typing of the documents from English to Hindi. This job an internal job responsibility allocated to JHT in their department.

Apart from translation and typing of document, a JHT working for Railway Board also has to assist the Hindi Officer present in the organization during Hindi Meetings and Hindi Workshops. Lastly, as a Junior Hindi Translator working for Ministry of Railways another major job responsibility is to maintain the files and records in Hindi.

Junior Hindi Translator in Armed Forces Headquarters (AFHQ)

Any candidate appointed as Junior Hindi Translator working for AFHQ has to complete the primary task of translation & typing of the documents from English to Hindi. Additionally, JHTs have to maintain the files and records in Hindi.

Junior Hindi Translator in Subordinate Offices

The first and foremost responsibility of Junior Hindi Translator working for Subordinate Offices is translation & typing of the documents from English to Hindi. Additionally, JHTs also have to assist Hindi Officers in the implementation of the work of the official language policies as well as in various other official matters.

Hindi Pradhyapak in Central Hindi Training Institute (CHTI)

As a Hindi Pradhyapak working for CHTI the primary job responsibility is to assist the Hindi Officer in the organization during Hindi meetings and workshops. Apart from this, Hindi Pradhyapak also works as teaching officers for Hindi Teaching Schemes.
