Staff selection commission has released the dates for document verification 2017. All the candidates who have been shortlisted for the document verification on the basis of the result declared on November 28th are hearby informed that the document verification of SSC (NR) will commence from 7th December 2018.

SSC Stenographer Grade 'C' & 'D' Skill Test Result Declared

The Staff Selection Commission had declared the result of the Written Examination of the Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Examination 2017 on 21.11.2017. In the said result 8469 candidates were declared qualified to be called for Skill Test for the post of Stenographer ‘C’ and 15004 candidates were declared qualified to be called for Skill Test for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘D

SSC Stenographer Onlne Application Date Extended

Staff Selection Commission released an important notice regarding the online application of stenographer. according to the official notification, candidates faced technical issues in filling up online applications for stenographer exam. Hence, in the interest of the candidates, it has been decided by the Commission to extend the closing date for receipt of online applications for the said examinations by one day i.e. up to 20-11-2018 (5.00 PM)

Application Process

The application process for SSC Stenographer is online. The application fee is non-refundable and must be paid through online mode only using Debit Cards, Credit Cards, Net Banking, IMPS, Cash Cards or Mobile Wallets. The application fee for SSC Steno is

  • Rs 100/- for General Category
  • NO FEE is to be paid by SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Ex-Servicemen and women candidates.

  • Select New Registration and enter all the basic details.
  • Enter all the Basic Information in SSC Application Form Part 1.
  • A Registration ID will be provided after completion of Part 1.

  • Upload Photograph and Signature and ensure that you have read all the details before clicking on Submit.
  • Take a Print for Future Reference.

Selection Process

The selection process of SSC Stenographer for Group “C” & Group “D” involves the following steps:

Step 1:

Computer Based Test or CBT

This is the primary paper for all candidates applying for the post of SSC Stenographer. All aspirants need to get adequate number of marks in three sections namely, General Awareness, English Language & Comprehension and General Intelligence & Reasoning in order to clear the exam.

The question paper will include 200 questions worth 200 marks. Candidates would be given a total time 2 hours to read, write, check and correct their answers before the final submission.

Step 2:

Skill or Computer Proficiency Test

Candidates who have clear Paper-1- CBT would be called/notified about Skill/Computer Proficiency Test.

Important Note:

*SSC will declare the minimum number of marks required to clear Paper-1 of SSC Stenographer exam.

*¼ marks of total marks assigned to a question would be deducted for selecting each wrong answer.

Step 3

Candidates who clear Paper-2 would be notified by email or can check their result on the official website of SSC.

Eligibility Criteria

SSC Stenographer Grade C and D Eligibility Criteria 2018 consists of a set of requirements and clauses in terms of age, educational qualification and nationality.

  • Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 18 to 30 years as on 01-01-2019 (i.e. candidates born on or after 02-01-1989 and born before or on 01-01-2001)
  • Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 18-27 years as on 01-01-2019 (i.e. candidates born on or after 02-01-1992 and born before or on 01-01-2001)

Relaxation:

  • SC/ ST: 5 Years
  • OBC: 3 Years
  • PH: 10 Years
  • PH + OBC: 13 Years
  • PH + SC/ST: 15 Years
  • J&K Domicile: 5 Years
  • Ex-Servicemen: the Actual period of service rendered in Defense Services + 3 Years

Educational Qualification

The applicant must have qualified 12th Class or equivalent Qualification from a recognized Central Board of Secondary Education. You need to produce relevant documents for the same.

The syllabus for SSC Stenographer 2018 would include:

English Language & Comprehension

This paper will test candidates English through questions based on:

  • Language,
  • Grammar,
  • Vocabulary,
  • Synonyms,
  • Antonyms,
  • Sentence structure,
  • Reading comprehension
  • Para jumble
  • Writing Ability

General Intelligence & Reasoning:

This paper would include questions based on:

Job Profile

Like mentioned above, Stenographers are broadly divided into two categories, namely, Grade “C” and Grade “D”.

Candidates recruited as “Stenographers” in Grade “C” are mostly placed in the national capital of India-Delhi. Also, they are either part of Ministries or Departments of Central Government.

However, candidates recruited as “Stenographers” in Grade “D” are further grouped in Group “X” and Group “Y”. All Group “X” candidates are assigned work under the Department of Central Government located at Delhi. Group “Y” candidates are assigned to work Department of Central Government and are placed across PAN India.

Duties assigned to SSC Stenographers are as following:

  • Speech Writing: The primary work of any SSC Stenographer recruited under any Department of Central Government to write speech. By that as it may, stenographers working with their assigned seniors note down any speech given by the officer. Stenographers need to note down details of speech carefully as such speeches are part of important government records.
  • Briefing for Press Conference: The second most important job of an SSC Stenographer is to note down all details given by their minister/officer during press conference(s). These briefings are used by government for giving out press releases.
  • Providing Assistance To Minister/Officer: Another major job responsibility of an SSC Stenographer is to help minister/officer for preparing public speeches. They are assigned this task because they are already involved in various government proceeding. Therefore, they know the relevant information important for various ministers or officers of government departments.
  • Providing Assistance To PRO’s: A major job responsibility of SSC Stenographer is to make notes of government departments, and their stand on issues on a daily basis. But, with this responsibility stenographers need to reach out the public too. They do so by providing relevant information to relevant Public Relationship Officer(PRO).

Q1.In the Skill Test whether candidates will be asked for Shorthand or normal typing?

Ans. The candidates will have to appear for the Shorthand(English/Hindi) in Stenography. The Skill Test

will be of qualifying nature.

understanding of the English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure,

synonyms, antonyms, and its correct usage, etc. his/ her writing ability, would also be

tested.
